Everton’s Munoz pursuit complicated by tactical fit, per reports
An Everton move for Daniel Munoz may hinge on more than fee and personal terms, with reports suggesting David Moyes has reservations about how the Crystal Palace defender fits his system.
The Daily Mail’s print edition reported this week that Moyes would prefer a straight right-back for his plans, rather than a player suited to a more advanced wing-back role.
Munoz has operated predominantly as a right wing-back at Palace, using his pace and stamina in a higher, wider role than a traditional Premier League right-back typically occupies.
Fitting him into a settled back four, rather than a system built around advancing full-backs, would likely require an adjustment either from the player or from Moyes himself.
It comes as Everton’s right-back search continues to run through the final fortnight of the transfer window, with Jake O’Brien deputising out of position for much of last season following Seamus Coleman’s departure and Nathan Patterson’s fall down the pecking order.
Moyes is understood to remain focused on finding a recognised right-back who can defend solidly while still offering an attacking outlet — a profile that differs from Munoz’s more advanced role at Selhurst Park.
Everton return to Hill Dickinson Stadium this afternoon to face Lille in their final pre-season friendly, before the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on 22 August.
