**Liverpool no longer look as certain to sign Ibrahim Mbaye as they did when links first appeared, with PSG reportedly charging more now than they were when it was just Bayer Leverkusen interested.**
French journalist Romain Molina shared on his [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeLQOrs-SFM) channel that Liverpool are interested in signing Mbaye, but he is not the No.1 target the Reds are chasing, in addition to Bradley Barcola. The reporter also notes that his future is likely to be decided mostly by who has connections to his agent Jorge Mendes.
_“That’s not where he’s most influential, especially with the price currently being asked by Paris Saint-Germain,”_ he explained, referring to Mendes’ relationship with Liverpool.
_“Truthfully, Mbaye is on Liverpool’s shortlist but not as the No. 1 choice._
_“On the contrary, Mendes knows very well that at the end of the transfer window there will something for Mbaye, so he will use the clubs where he has the most influence to make things move.”_
PSG seem to have upped the price for Mbaye since Liverpool got involved
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Before Liverpool entered the race for Ibrahim Mbaye, Bayer Leverkusen were said to have a deal nearly agreed for around £43m, but since Liverpool’s involvement, the price has gone up.
This is something that has changed since David Lynch reported that it wouldn’t happen, which may be why Liverpool links to the 18-year-old have died down over the last week or so.
Lynch said: _“If Liverpool do come in at the last, if they do decide to pull the trigger on Mbaye, it’s going to be hard for PSG to turn around and say, ‘Well, you’re a Premier League club, we’re going to charge you X, Y or Z,’ because they’ve come quite close to agreeing what a fee would look like already with clubs like RB Leipzig, with Bayer Leverkusen, and that valuation is out there.”_
Liverpool are pretty ruthless when it comes to negotiating prices for players and if they feel that the value in signing Mbaye has shifted, it’s understandable why they may be close to walking away.
