Bruno Guimaraes delivered a heartfelt happy birthday message to his fellow Brazilian and former Newcastle United teammate Joelinton on Friday.
Joelinton celebrated his 30th birthday less than a week after Guimaraes secured a £75million transfer to Premier League champions Arsenal. For the first time in four-and-a-half years, Joelinton is the only Brazilian in Newcastle’s senior squad.
During Guimaraes’ time at Newcastle, he built a strong relationship with Joelinton both on and off the pitch. Joelinton also went on to become a full Brazil international alongside Guimaraes as a reward for his strong form at club level.

Joelinton is also among the candidates to replace Guimaraes as Newcastle captain, having led the team out at Murrayfield on Wednesday night ahead of the 3-1 defeat to Everton. New head coach Matthias Jaissle claims a decision has not been made yet over who Newcastle’s captain will be for the 2026/27 campaign.
Although Guimaraes is no longer a Newcastle player, the bonds he established during his time on Tyneside are there to last.
And that was evident in a heartfelt social media post wishing Joelinton a happy birthday.
Guimaraes wrote: “Happy birthday, my brother! May God bless you today and always.
“I love you and your family very much. You know you can count on me until the end! Enjoy your day with your family, which I consider my own.”
Guimaraes was also very selective of his choice of image to go along with the caption. Despite hundreds of images of the pair at Newcastle together, he instead opted to use one of the few of them training together with the Brazil national team.
