With high-profile signings such as Morgan Rogers and Maxence Lacroix, many Chelsea fans have underrated how important the addition of Valentin Barco will become.
Chelsea were aware of interest from top European sides in Barco, and therefore wrapped up a deal quickly to sign him from Strasbourg.
He is yet to feature for Xabi Alonso’s side due to being afforded an extended off-season break after being part of the Argentina side to make the World Cup final.

Chelsea’s signing of Valentin Barco is about to become even more important
He was in the international squad alongside Enzo Fernandez, who at this stage looks as if he will go into the new season a Chelsea player, despite his best efforts to leave.
Both Real Madrid and Manchester City have at different points between favourites to sign him, and a reunion with Enzo Maresca cannot be fully ruled out yet.

However, the task at the minute for the midfielder will be reintegrating with his club teammates ahead of the Premier League campaign getting underway again.
This is where Barco can play a huge rOLE, given he has built up a rapport with Fernandez during their time representing Argentina.
Having someone the World Cup winner can turn to at this moment is going to be huge, and with countryman Alejandro Garnacho now gone, Barco will be able to play that role.

Barco not expected to leave on loan this summer
At this stage, there has been no talk of a potential loan move away from Stamford Bridge this summer for the youngster, and the help he could be for Fernandez may make that decision even easier.
Barco is expected to be one of the midfield options alongside Fernandez, with Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Jordan Henderson too.
Some of those who are more committed to the cause at Stamford Bridge may have some initial doubts about bringing Fernandez back into the fold if he is not 100% convinced on the club and their project.
However, a few strong performances and the fickle nature of football fans will get everyone back onside.
