PSG officially announce Ferran Torres signing

Paris Saint Germain have added another major piece to their attacking puzzle this summer, confirming the signing of Spanish international Ferran Torres on a contract running until 2031.

The World Cup winning forward will wear the number 9 shirt at the Parc des Princes, joining from Barcelona in a move that closes one chapter of his career and opens an entirely new one under Luis Enrique.

Born in Foios, Spain, on February 29, 2000, Torres began his footballing journey through futsal before joining the Valencia academy at the age of seven.

He rose through the ranks quickly, becoming the first player born in the 21st century to feature in La Liga when he debuted against Eibar in December 2017.

Across three seasons with Valencia, he set numerous age related records, including becoming the youngest player in the club’s history to reach 50 league appearances.

He also lifted his first professional trophy in 2019, winning the Copa del Rey.

His performances in Spain earned him a move to Manchester City in 2020, where he worked under Pep Guardiola and quickly made his mark, scoring on his EFL Cup debut against Burnley just days after his Premier League bow.

He was part of Manchester City’s run to the Champions League final in 2021, while also winning the Premier League and League Cup. Midway through the following season, he completed a switch to Barcelona.

At Barcelona, Torres, nicknamed El Tiburón, became a consistent and important presence in the club’s attack.

Across 207 appearances, he scored 65 goals, including a crucial contribution in the 2025 Copa del Rey final victory over Real Madrid.

During his time with the Blaugrana, he won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups.

His international career has been equally decorated.

Torres won European titles at both Under 17 and Under 19 level before making his senior Spain debut under Luis Enrique in 2020, then serving as Spain’s manager.

He has gone on to earn 65 caps, featuring at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup before winning the Nations League in 2023 and the European Championship in 2024.

This summer in North America, Torres reached the pinnacle of his international career, scoring the only goal in extra time as Spain defeated Argentina in the World Cup final, a performance that also earned him the Man of the Match award.

His arrival in Paris is part of a wider reshaping of PSG’s attacking options that carries direct consequences for Liverpool.

According to reports, PSG are also closing in on a deal for Ajax winger Mika Godts, adding to the earlier signing of Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco.

Together, those three arrivals have been described as a domino effect that could finally soften PSG’s stance on Bradley Barcola.

Liverpool have long viewed Barcola as their priority attacking target following Mohamed Salah’s departure, but PSG’s valuation of around €170 million had proven a significant obstacle.

With Torres, Godts and Akliouche all arriving to strengthen an already crowded forward line, reports suggest Luis Enrique could soon have as many as nine winger options to choose from, a situation that increases the likelihood PSG will finally be willing to negotiate on Barcola.

Speaking after completing the move, Torres reflected on the opportunity ahead of him.

“I’m delighted to be beginning a new adventure at such an ambitious club as Paris Saint Germain.”

“I’d like to thank President Nasser Al Khelaifi, Luis Campos and coach Luis Enrique for giving me the opportunity to join the team, which I hope to help win as many trophies as possible.”

With a World Cup winner’s medal freshly added to his collection, Torres now begins the next chapter of his career in Paris, aiming to bring that same winning mentality to a club with similarly enormous ambitions.
