Match Preview
After a big win over Newcastle midweek in Scotland, Everton are at home for the only time this preseason as they host LOSC Lille. This is their last friendly before they start their Premier League campaign exactly a week from today, hosting Crystal Palace at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Lille are managed by Davide Ancelotti, son of the former Toffees boss, and he’s got some revolutionary ideas he’s implementing so far at the Ligue 1 side. The Italian manager has replaced Bruno Genesio, who left the club at the end of last season after guiding the team to a third-place finish in Ligue 1 and securing qualification for the next edition of the UEFA Champions League.
David Moyes is going to have to make some decisions for his first week squad with midfielders James Garner and Christian Norgaard still regaining fitness, and Brennan Johnson having just joined the club. There’s still no right back signed so even if one was to be brought in over the remaining fortnight before the transfer deadline, they will be unlikely to play anytime soon.
The two sides have some shared history, with seven players having donned the colours for both teams in the last decade or so - Lucas Digne, Anwar El Ghazi, Andre Gomes, Idrissa Gana Gueye, Kevin Mirallas, Amadou Onana, and Djibril Sidibe.
