'Here we go' - Fabrizio Romano claims Newcastle United have agreed sixth summer signing ahead…

Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a £30million deal with Benfica to sign right-back Amar Dedic.

It comes after the 23-year-old was targeted as a full-back addition having worked previously with Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle at Red Bull Salzburg.

Dedic played against Newcastle for Benfica in the Champions League last season at St James’ Park. The Magpies claimed a 3-0 win with Anthony Gordon opening the scoring before Harvey Barnes netted a second-half brace.

The Gazette previously reported that Dedic is keen on the move and the opportunity to work with Jaissle once again. Now a deal is understood to have been agreed between all parties with Dedic joining for £30million, signing a five-year deal.

Transfer narrative expert Fabrizio Romano also gave the move his ‘here we go’ seal of approval on social media.

“Newcastle have agreed deal with Benfica to sign Amar Dedić, here we go!” Romano posted. “Deal in place at €35m package with sell-on included for Benfica. Portuguese club wanted Dedić to stay but player wanted #NUFC move as top priority and excited to work with Matthias Jaissle.”

Following Newcastle’s 3-1 defeat against Everton at Murrayfield on Wednesday night, Jaissle was asked by The Gazette whether Dedic was a player he was looking to sign.

“I will be always consistent,” he replied. “You can ask now many, many names, and I heard already on the social media many names linked to us, but I will not be part of those rumours, so you will not get any answers towards names.”

Newcastle have been in desperate need of a full-back this summer with Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley currently recovering from injury. It comes after the releases of Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett and Emil Krafth and the loan departures of Alex Murphy and Harrison Ashby.

But now Dedic is set to arrive ahead of the Premier League season opener against Liverpool at St James’ Park on August 23.

The Bosnia & Herzegovina international primarily plays as a right-back but, much like Tino Livramento, is also capable of playing on the left if needed. He will be Newcastle’s sixth summer signing after Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba and Lukas Hornicek.
