Talks between Liverpool and PSG for the transfer of Bradley Barcola are ongoing, but Luis Enrique has now hinted that the player is unhappy in Paris.
The drawn-out saga between Liverpool and PSG has frustrated fans, but these mega-money deals are perhaps even more punishing on the player in question, with his future seemingly in limbo until an agreement can be found.
Transfer fees, agent commissions and public image all come into the equation, with both clubs desperate to get the best deal possible while the players suffer a drawn-out wait to hear their fate. It’s obviously an exciting moment too, but when someone like Barcola has been waiting months to discover where his future is heading, it’s a tough pill to swallow.
A report from L’Equipe in late July claimed that Barcola became frustrated last season at constantly being left out of the PSG starting XI in big European games, coming to the conclusion that his future lies away from the Parisian giants.
Now, speaking to the press, PSG boss Luis Enrique has hinted that Barcola is unhappy at the club and that they need to find a solution that is best for all parties involved.
The Spanish coach said: “When a player doesn’t have a smile when coming here, it’s better to look for another solution.”

This sentiment is something that Liverpool themselves have believed in for a long time, particularly under Jurgen Klopp, who always said that players who wanted to leave Anfield should be allowed to.
However, money talks. PSG have one of the most valuable assets in football in Barcola, and until they feel they are receiving the value they perceive in the 23-year-old winger, he will remain at the Parc des Princes.
As the window ticks towards its conclusion, Barcola’s apparent unhappiness at PSG will factor more heavily in talks between Liverpool and PSG. The French club know that Barcola has only two years left on his contract and that this summer is their opportunity to make a major profit on a player they spent just €45m (£38.4m) on in 2023.
However, if they deny his wish to leave by refusing to compromise with Liverpool on a fee, they will lose many millions on a transfer fee and be left with a player who is unhappy and therefore less likely to perform.
