Just a few days after reuniting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year deal, veteran linebacker Elandon Roberts is back in a familiar look.
Roberts, who signed a one-year deal Thursday to return to the Steel City after one season away, is practicing Saturday at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe in jersey No. 50, the same digits he wore in 2023 and 2024 with the Steelers.
Roberts was initially listed as No. 57 due to outside linebacker Jamin Davis wearing No. 50. But that changed Saturday morning. ESPN’s Brooke Pryor tweeted it out moments ago.
Hope yinz didn’t buy 57 Roberts jerseys. Jamin Davis is wearing 57 today. Roberts gets his old number back. https://t.co/NOEln3BDg6

Roberts is now listed as No. 50 on the Steelers’ official roster and Davis is No. 57.
With some concerns at inside linebacker under new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, the Steelers brought back Roberts, an old-school, downhill thumper. The move made sense considering Roberts’ history with the Steelers and having played for Graham last season in Las Vegas.
Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson are listed as the Steelers’ starters at inside linebacker with Cole Holcomb and second-year pro Carson Bruener the top backups.
Veteran Malik Harrison, who was signed last offseason in free agency to replace Roberts, is third team on the depth chart and is a clear cut candidate after a disappointing, injury-filled 2025 season.
During his two seasons with the Steelers, Roberts played 1,059 defensive snaps, receiving grades of 72.5 and 77.2 overall from Pro Football Focus. PFF gave him a 90.4 run-defense grade in 2024.
While with the Steelers, Roberts provided a real edge to their defense, bringing serious physicality it. He punished pulling linemen and had some highlight-reel moments against the run, including against new Steelers running back Rico Dowdle.
But the Steelers decided to go in a different direction last offseason, adding Harrison to get younger and add some special teams abilities. It hasn’t worked out, and now Roberts is back in the Steel City wearing a familiar number.
