Coventry City are closing in on a notable addition to their attacking options as Frank Lampard continues to shape his squad ahead of the new season.
The Sky Blues have been active in the transfer market as they look to build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League, with Lampard keen to add further firepower to his ranks.

The latest development could see Coventry bring in a striker with considerable experience at the highest level of English football, having previously represented one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Coventry City have agreed a deal with Nottingham Forest to sign Taiwo Awoniyi on a permanent transfer, with the player’s medical now understood to be taking place.
Fabrizio Romano revealed the news on social media, confirming that an agreement has been reached between the two clubs and that Awoniyi will become Lampard’s latest attacking addition once the formalities of the move are completed.
The Nigerian striker joined Liverpool in 2015 but never made a first-team appearance for the club, spending time on loan with several European sides before eventually making his move away from Anfield permanent.
Awoniyi enjoyed a successful spell with Union Berlin before returning to England with Nottingham Forest in 2022.
Nottingham Forest paid a reported £17 million to bring the forward to the City Ground, where he became an important part of their squad.
His time at Forest has included some memorable moments, including scoring the winner against Liverpool at the City Ground in October 2022.
He also became the first Forest player since Stan Collymore to score in six consecutive Premier League matches during the 2023/24 campaign.
The move to Coventry would therefore represent a return to the Championship for Awoniyi and another major statement of intent from Lampard.
With his medical already underway, Coventry will now hope the remaining formalities can be completed swiftly, allowing the experienced striker to begin his new chapter with the Sky Blues.
