Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their quest to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola, as well as an update on the future of Cody Gakpo. The Reds have been heavily linked with signing Barcola this summer as the France international emerges as a key target to strengthen the forward options in the squad.
Reports have been swirling for some time about Barcola potentially completing a move to Liverpool this summer, with suggestions that he would like a switch to Anfield from the French capital.
As the ECHO have reported, Liverpool were set to open talks with PSG over a deal for Barcola last month, but there has been no major update on the 23-year-old’s future in the weeks that have followed.
There has now been a major update from PSG, with the reigning Champions League winners confirming the signing of Ferran Torres from Barcelona, who has joined on a permanent deal with a contract that runs until the summer of 2031.
As a result, there is likely to be even more speculation that a move for Barcola could get closer to completion, even though the signing of Torres has seen the Spain international take the No.9 shirt, which was occupied by Goncalo Ramos before his departure this summer.
PSG have also signed Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco and appear to be closing in on a deal to sign Mika Godts from Ajax, which would further fuel speculation that Barcola's departure could be on the cards.
The update comes amid increased uncertainty around Gakpo’s future, with a report in Voetbal International claiming that the Netherlands international has agreed personal terms on a move to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Liverpool are already looking to strengthen their forward options, so a departure for Gakpo would certainly increase the need for reinforcements to be added to the squad.
Bacola is reported to be valued by PSG at around £140million, which would require a club-record fee for Liverpool to be able to pay, although it is unlikely that the Reds will meet that asking price.
Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Barcola’s PSG teammate, Ibrahim Mbaye, with neither of the duo getting any minutes in the Super Cup win over Aston Villa in midweek.
