Newcastle United confirm new injury, set to miss Liverpool game

You can never read too much into pre-season results. That being said, it is hard not to be a little worried after Newcastle United’s defeats. The latest of them came at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen. Matthias Jaissle’s side lost 2-1.

With the Premier League season just around the corner, these are not positive signs. One can only hope that Jaissle is able to put together a winning combination before the campaign kicks off against Liverpool.

Newcastle United simply have lost far too much quality this summer and have not replaced it. Most of the players who have been brought in are quality talents but might not be ready to be starters just yet.

Amid all this, the injury problems have not helped the Magpies either. And going into the new season, it has been confirmed that they are dealing with a fresh issue to one of their most experienced players.

Joelinton injury confirmed by Jaissle, looks set to miss Liverpool game

The player who has picked up the injury is none other than Joelinton. He is believed to have picked up an injury in training. According to The Shields Gazette, Jaissle said:

“You need experience in the current squad. Now with Joelinton, a player who’s unfortunately injured, so he will be missing a couple of weeks as it looks right now. This is something we need to solve as soon as possible.”

Neither the nature nor the extent of the injury have been confirmed though. When asked about it, Jaissle said:

“Well, he will miss for sure the first weeks, but all details will be followed.”

Well, it looks like all we can do is wait and watch. But with the Liverpool game merely a week away, it is safe to rule Joelinton out for that one and hope that he returns to fitness in time for future matches.

Could Joelinton stay at Celtic?

Obviously, one also has to mention that Joelinton was widely expected to leave the club this summer. Has that situation changed, after all the experience they have lost already in this transfer window?

We are not certain. But if it did, it would not come as a major surprise. Newcastle United do need to keep some of their experienced heads around, having already lost Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes within the space of weeks.

Of course, the injury could end up playing a part in Joelinton’s future as well. If he is going to be out for any considerable length of time, it is unlikely that a club would be open to signing him at this point.

But coming back to the matter at hand, this injury could turn out to be a headache for Jaissle when they take on Liverpool in the opening game of their Premier League season.

Most Newcastle United fans will be hoping that the club end up making a few more quality additions to the squad before that Liverpool game. But it is hard to predict after how things have played out so far in this window.
