Liverpool have continued their preparations ahead of the new season with another encouraging result against one of the Premier League’s leading clubs.
The Reds have been able to use the summer to assess a number of players, with opportunities being handed to those looking to impress and stake their claim for regular involvement.

There was certainly plenty to be positive about after Liverpool came out on top against Manchester City, securing a convincing 2-0 victory.
The fixture was contested at Under-16 level, with Harrison O’Brien and Jason Williams finding the net for Liverpool while the Reds also kept a clean sheet.
The victory also provided the first opportunity for one of Liverpool’s summer signings to pull on the famous red shirt, with Zach Trinder making his debut for the club.
The England youth international joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer after the Reds won the race for his signature, having impressed during his rapid rise through the Wolves academy.
Trinder had already attracted considerable attention before his move to Anfield, despite his young age, having regularly been trusted to play against considerably older opposition.
His progression saw him make his Under-18 debut for Wolves in March, keeping a clean sheet against Liverpool in a 1-0 victory, before also featuring in Premier League 2 later in the campaign.
The goalkeeper’s performances also earned international recognition, with Trinder representing England at Under-15 level despite being younger than many of those around him.
Liverpool ultimately secured his services after a compensation agreement was reached with Wolves, adding another highly-rated prospect to their academy setup.
The youngster has now made his first appearance for the Reds, and it was an ideal introduction.
Zach Trinder was asked to step up an age group for the Under-16 meeting with Manchester City and responded by keeping a clean sheet as Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory.
With O’Brien and Williams providing the goals, Liverpool were able to see out an impressive result, while Trinder’s debut will provide further encouragement regarding the club’s latest goalkeeping recruit.
It is an early but promising start for the teenager at Anfield, with Liverpool already seeing signs of why they were so keen to bring him to Merseyside.
