Liverpool Transfer News: According to Dutch outlet Voetbal International, 27-year-old Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has agreed personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur, giving the proposed transfer another significant push. The Dutch publication says the player and both clubs expect the deal talks to produce a positive resolution before the deadline this summer.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi wants the Netherlands international after Spurs committed £237m to Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke. Liverpool, meanwhile, have changed their attacking plans after Mohamed Salah’s departure and Andoni Iraola’s arrival.

Their preferred replacement is Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, although PSG’s £145m valuation has created a major obstacle. PSG’s signing of Ajax winger Mika Godts has strengthened talk of a Barcola exit, while Liverpool have added Victor Muñoz as their only attacking recruit so far.

Liverpool Transfer News and the Gakpo decision

Selling Gakpo for more than £60m could make financial and sporting sense only if Liverpool complete their replacement plan. His 2025/26 league record, with seven goals and five assists in 36 appearances, shows useful production rather than elite output. Yet his value extends beyond numbers.

Gakpo can play from the left, lead the line and offer physical presence, giving Iraola flexibility across the front three. The versatility is important because Liverpool have lost Salah’s goals and creativity. Releasing another established attacker before securing Barcola would leave a thinner group at a delicate stage.

Tottenham would gain a ready-made Premier League forward who can attack space, combine in possession and handle different roles without an adaptation period. That makes the reported personal agreement significant, especially after Spurs’ heavy spending. Gakpo could raise Tottenham’s attacking floor, while his size and movement would complement quicker forwards around him.

Still, £60m-plus represents serious money for a player Liverpool can still use. Spurs gain tactical certainty; Liverpool accept short-term volatility while betting that Barcola offers a higher ceiling. The problem becomes sharper if PSG refuse to lower their £145m demand, because Liverpool could lose a reliable multi-category contributor without securing the player they want as his successor. That scenario would leave Iraola with fewer proven options and increase pressure on Victor Muñoz, while Tottenham could gain a dependable starter just as De Zerbi strengthens his attack. It is a serious swap.
