Gunners legend suggests audacious transfer swap between Manchester United and Arsenal

We’re in the thick of the transfer window, with rumours being spun up left, right and centre. Now, Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has suggested the most audacious transfer swap between the Gunners and Manchester United.

Earlier this week, it was widely reported that Arsenal – who need to sell players to offset transfer splurges from the last couple of seasons – had offered Hale End graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly to Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea. This caused uproar among the Arsenal faithful, with the club’s fans angered at the prospect of losing MLS, especially to a rival. In fact, Myles Lewis-Skelly’s camp put out a statement to reaffirm his desire to remain in north London and fight for a spot in Mikel Arteta‘s team this season.

There’s often no smoke without fire, so what does the future hold for England international Myles Lewis-Skelly?

Arsenal have been linked with several elite players and are well known to be looking to upgrade the left wing position this summer. Having launched an unsuccessful bid to sign Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior, the Gunners have also been linked with PSG‘s World Cup star Bradley Barcola after they missed out on their reported top target Morgan Rogers this summer.

Now, Gunners icon Lee Dixon believes that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford could be the answer.

During a recent interview with BestBettingSites, Dixon when asked if he would consider trading Lewis-Skelly for Rashford, said:

“Would I swap them (Myles Lewis Skelly and Marcus Rashford)? You know what, I probably would. And that’s nothing against Myles Lewis-Skelly; it’s about giving him the freedom to go and expand his game elsewhere.

“With Marcus Rashford, he’s a player who needs an arm around his shoulder, and Arteta would be great for him. Give him that love, give him the freedom to play on that left side, and yeah, I’d like to see him in an Arsenal shirt. I have my reservations about whether he’s consistently a top-class player, but based on what Arsenal have in the squad now, he’d be a good addition.”

Tips Tzolis for stardom

One signing Arsenal have completed this summer is that of Christos Tzolis, paying Club Brugge £34m for the Greek international who operates from the left wing.

Arteta and Berta identified Tzolis as the natural replacement for Leandro Trossard, who was sold to Besiktas for £18m earlier in the summer. The one-time Norwich man moves to The Emirates off the back of a stellar season in Belgium where he netted 17 goals and registered 23 assists in 36 games.

Based on those numbers and early glimpses of the new man in pre-season, Dixon is convinced that Tzolis can become a big player for Arsenal this season.

“The player who stands out for me is Tzolis. I really like this kid. I think he’s that next level up from Trossard. Martinelli is a bit off-the-cuff – you don’t always know what you’re going to get. So I think we should give Tzolis a bit of free rein and see how he goes in the first six or seven games.”

Arsenal take on Manchester City in the Community Shield at 15:00 today.
