Andoni Iraola has selected a strong side, including Alexis Mac Allister, for the first of Liverpool’s two friendlies against Como 1907.

Liverpool have two friendly games against Cesc Fabregas’ Como on Sunday, the first of which is being played at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.

Giorgi Mamardashvili starts in goal this morning, behind a back four of Calvin Ramsay, Wataru Endo, Luke Chambers and Kostas Tsimikas.

A young midfield pairing of Trey Nyoni and James McConnell line up in the middle of the park, with a trio ahead of them of Harvey Elliott, Mac Allister and Victor Munoz.

This leaves Federico Chiesa to lead the line, though he will likely rotate often with the other attackers.

Liverpool Starting XI: Mamardashvili; Ramsay, Endo, Chambers, Tsimikas; McConnell, Nyoni; Elliott, Mac Allister, Munoz; Chiesa

Substitutes: Davies, Ndiaye, Pitt, Morrison, Koumas, Sonni-Lambie, Wright

The key piece of news is that Mac Allister gets his first minutes of pre-season less than four weeks after Argentina’s World Cup final defeat to Munoz’s Spain, whom he plays alongside today.

Mac Allister’s inclusion is primarily for fitness purposes, but it will be interesting to see how he plays in what will probably be the No. 10 role, a position he played more frequently at Brighton.

With Munoz to his left, Elliott will be shifted to the right, with Calvin Ramsay providing an option on the overlap.

Also getting his first start is Endo, who returned to action last weekend following an ankle injury that kept him out of the World Cup.

The likes of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai are all being saved for the second friendly, which kicks off at Anfield at 6pm (BST).
