Inter Milan plan to sell second midfielder to fund Curtis Jones move

Inter Milan are continuing to work on their plans for the summer transfer window, with the Serie A giants increasingly looking to raise further funds before making their move for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.

The Italian club had already been expected to free up some money through the loan of one of their midfielders, with Davide Frattesi’s proposed move to Napoli understood to be an important part of their plans.

That deal was initially viewed as a move which could help pave the way for Inter to step up their pursuit of Jones.

However, according to reports from Corriere Dello Sport, Inter Milan are now considering offloading another midfielder in order to provide greater financial certainty over a potential deal for the Liverpool academy graduate.

That player is Brazilian midfielder Luis Henrique, with Inter open to his departure as they look to collect further “munition” for their pursuit of Jones.

Inter already have an open dialogue with Roma over Henrique, with the Brazilian currently valued at around €30 million including bonuses.

However, the exact structure of a potential agreement remains to be resolved, while Roma are currently concentrating on strengthening their forward line.

Regardless of whether Henrique leaves the San Siro this summer, Inter are expected to make a serious attempt to sign Jones, who has reportedly been specifically requested by head coach Cristian Chivu.

Liverpool have maintained a firm stance over Jones for much of the summer, with the Reds previously demanding around €40 million for the midfielder despite his current contract running until 2027.

There has, however, reportedly been some movement in Liverpool’s position recently, and a belief on Inter’s side that Liverpool could end up lowering the price if negotiations go smoothly.

The situation is comparable to Inter Milan’s pursuit of Djed Spence, where an initially high valuation was eventually reduced to facilitate a transfer.

For Inter, the message appears clear.

Frattesi’s departure alone may not provide enough financial backing to complete their pursuit of Jones, meaning another sale could now be required.

With Chivu keen to bring Jones to Italy, Inter will hope that further funds raised from player sales can finally allow them to complete a deal for a player that they have had their eyes on all summer long.
