Lfctv commentator makes worst possible start to Liverpool vs Como friendly

Liverpool fans were quick to pick up on a mistake from LFCTV's commentator, who seemed to momentarily forget that the club had a new manager in place this summer

Old habits die hard for some, and for LFCTV’s commentator, that was definitely the case as Liverpool’s preseason came to a close.

The Reds face Italian side Como in a double-header on Sunday in their final friendlies of the summer, with the start of the 2026/27 campaign now just a week away — Liverpool will kick off the new season at Newcastle on August 23.

Iraola’s players then had a couple of final opportunities to catch the eye of their new boss, who will lead the Reds into the new season following Arne Slot’s dismissal earlier in the summer — although the Dutchman is clearly still fresh in the mind for some at the club.

As Liverpool built up to its penultimate friendly, which was played behind closed doors at the club’s AXA Training Centre, LFCTV commentator John Bradley announced the hosts’ side — but the change in head coach clearly slipped his mind for a moment.

Running through the team named by Iraola, Bradley introduced it by saying: “It’s a strong side that Arne Slot has sent out.”

The error didn’t pass fans by on social media. One asked: “Did the LFC TV commentator just say the team Arne Slot sent out?”

Another posted: “LFC TV commentator just said Arne Slot instead of Iraola… PTSD setting in.”

One supporter wrote: “Someone tell that commentator on LFCTV Arne Slot was sacked there.”

And another exclaimed: “The commentator still thinks Arne Slot is the Liverpool manager. Good start.”

It became clear it was an honest mistake from Bradley, with the commentator going on to discuss the start of a “new era” under Iraola as the game kicked off.

The new Liverpool boss will be aiming to improve on Slot’s final season in charge, with the Reds having barely scraped Champions League qualification after a poor campaign which saw them finish fifth.

Iraola’s side has endured a mixed pre-season so far, with two wins and two defeats, but the Spaniard is confident his team is heading in the right direction.

“I have spoken many times about the type of team I want to see on the pitch, about the intensity, the intent and the energy we are looking for, and while it is clear that there is still a lot of improvement to come, I believe that we are moving in the right direction and I expect that to continue in the coming days and weeks as the season gets under way,” Iraola said ahead of the final preseason friendlies.

He added: “There is no doubt in my mind about the quality and the potential we have within our squad, and now it is up to us to show that on a consistent basis going forward.”
