Why is the Community Shield not at Wembley?

When and where is the Community Shield being held?: The Community Shield will be held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales instead of Wembley Stadium. This location, home of the Wales national football and rugby teams, will be the venue of the clash between Arsenal vs Manchester City on August 16, with kick-off confirmed for 3pm.

Reason for stadium switch: Canadian pop star The Weeknd has booked five nights at Wembley between August 14 until August 19. This long stretch of dates for the musician's After Hours Til Dawn Tour, coupled with the Premier League season's delay due to the World Cup, means the dates no longer work for Wembley to host the Community Shield.

Official statement: The FA released a statement which read: "Due to alterations to the 2026-27 football calendar, next season’s Premier League will begin over the weekend of Saturday August 22, and Wembley Stadium connected by EE is unavailable on Saturday 15 and Sunday August 16 due to pre-planned concerts."

Last time it was held in Cardiff: The Principality Stadium has hosted six Community Shields in its time, from 2001 until 2006, when Wembley was under construction.

Previous moves explained: Since returning to Wembley in 2007, the Community Shield has moved twice. It switched to Villa Park in 2012 for the Olympic Games and then to the King Power Stadium in 2022, as Wembley hosted the Women's European Championship final.
