Curtis Jones asking price lowered by Liverpool

Curtis Jones’ Liverpool future has become increasingly uncertain as the midfielder enters the final year of his contract at Anfield, with interest from Inter Milan continuing to provide a major talking point during the final stages of the transfer window.

The academy graduate has been part of Liverpool’s preparations for the new campaign but has found himself at the centre of transfer speculation, while an outburst earlier in pre-season added another layer of intrigue to his situation.

Despite showing flashes of his quality, Jones now appears to be facing an uncertain future.

Liverpool have previously made it clear that they would only consider allowing the midfielder to leave for a sizeable fee, with Inter having already tested their resolve earlier in the summer.

Back in June, the Reds rejected a second offer from Inter worth £21.7million for Jones.

Liverpool were reportedly frustrated by the Italian club’s approach and valued the midfielder at around £35m, despite the fact he has entered the final 12 months of his current contract.

However, with the transfer window entering its final stages, Liverpool’s stance now appears to have softened.

According to The Mirror, the growing pressure to move players on before the deadline is beginning to tell at Anfield.

Jones is one of several Liverpool players entering the final year of their contracts who have yet to secure moves away from the club this summer.

There are now just 17 days remaining in the transfer window, while the Premier League campaign is also fast approaching, leaving Liverpool with a decision to make over Jones.

Corriere dello Sport claim that the Reds’ €40m (£34m) valuation of the midfielder has now softened, potentially bringing the asking price closer to Inter’s expectations.

The development could therefore pave the way for the 25-year-old to leave his boyhood club, with Liverpool seemingly prepared to compromise on their initial valuation rather than risk losing another player in the final year of his contract.

With the new season approaching, Jones’ future could now be one of the situations to watch closely before the transfer window closes.
