Jeremy Jacquet makes Liverpool debut

Jeremy Jacquet will finally make his Liverpool debut after being handed a starting place in the Reds’ second pre-season friendly against Como at Anfield this evening.

The summer signing starts alongside captain Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, marking a significant moment for the young Frenchman as he begins his career on Merseyside.

Jacquet’s first appearance has been a long time coming, with the defender’s pre-season disrupted by the shoulder injury which prematurely ended his 2025/26 campaign with Rennes.

The 21-year-old suffered the injury during Rennes’ defeat to Lens in February after landing awkwardly, with the problem subsequently requiring surgery.

He was ruled out for the remainder of the season as he began his rehabilitation.

After completing his move to Liverpool, Jacquet revealed that his shoulder had improved significantly and that he had been given the green light by his surgeon to resume group training.

However, Liverpool have taken a cautious approach with their new centre-back throughout the summer, with Andoni Iraola previously explaining that they wanted to ease him back into action rather than rush his return.

That approach meant Jacquet has missed every single fixture of Liverpool’s pre-season up until today.

The defender has now been rewarded with his first Liverpool appearance, giving him valuable minutes ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Jacquet’s debut also comes at an important time for Liverpool, with defensive injuries having been a major concern throughout pre-season.

Elsewhere, fellow new arrival Ronald Araujo has been named among the substitutes and could still make his first appearance for the club this evening.

Liverpool have otherwise fielded a strong side, with Alisson in goal and Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong completing the defence.

Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch feature in midfield, while Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha make up the attack.

For Jacquet, though, this evening is about finally getting his Liverpool journey underway after a frustrating period on the sidelines.
