Dallas Cowboys steal Von Miller from NFC East rival in spectacular homecoming

Veteran NFL pass rusher and Super Bowl champion Von Miller is expected to join the Dallas Cowboys and return to his home state of Texas after a nine-sack season with an NFC East rival last season

Just when NFL fans began to envision a league far removed from the bend-and-burst speed rushers of the 2010s, veteran Von Miller is continuing his passion for terrorizing quarterbacks, and this time he finally gets to do it in his home state of Texas.

Miller spent most of his NFL life far from his hometown of DeSoto, but the final act might actually play out where it all began. The Dallas Cowboys dropped the news Sunday night that they had reached a deal with the eight-time Pro Bowler.

Bringing Miller home is one thing, but the Cowboys also yanked a quarterback nightmare straight out of Washington’s hands and away from their NFC East rivals. Meanwhile, John Harbaugh and Jaxson Dart were puzzled over the Giants QB being forced to the blue medical tent after taking a big shot in the preseason.

While no ink had dried on an official contract, the Cowboys had already blasted the news on social media, and Miller had addressed Cowboy Nation through the same outlets.

The DeSoto native posted himself in a Dallas No. 40 jersey after news of the deal gained online steam. Miller grew up just outside the city and later became a football state legend after his time at Texas A&M.

The 37-year-old won Super Bowl 50 and the game's MVP. The Cowboys are banking on unlocking Miller's skill that produced nine sacks for the Commanders last season despite playing only 37 percent of the defensive snaps.

Miller said earlier this year that signing with Dallas would allow his parents to stop flying around the country to watch him play. He's entering his 15th NFL season with 138.5 career sacks and a chance to continue improving his legacy.

Just four more sacks and Miller jumps over some legendary names on the all-time list, including Terrell Suggs, Lawrence Taylor, and Michael Strahan.

If Miller drops another nine sacks, he crashes the NFL’s all-time top 10 unofficially and lands just outside the official top five, right behind Strahan. The ex-Giants pass rusher earned his Canton Gold Jacket in 2014 on his second try.

The Cowboys already added Rashan Gary through trade; second-year edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku remains part of the rotation; and Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark continue their heavyweight support inside.

Miller just spent 2025 in Washington and now he is flipping straight to one of their biggest rivals. Dallas gets two shots at the Commanders and two at Philly in Weeks 7 and 12, with a Thanksgiving showdown against the Eagles on the menu.

The move also gives Dallas a big-name veteran after Jadeveon Clowney and Dante Fowler Jr. hit free agency. Clowney was initially arrested the same week the team brought him in to replace Micah Parsons after the organization traded its star to the Green Bay Packers.
