Liverpool star Stefan Bajcetic could leave the club in the final few weeks of the summer transfer window, as reports claim that talks are ongoing over a potential move.

It comes after a challenging spell for the 21-year-old, who has struggled to keep fit in recent seasons, halting his progress after an impressive breakthrough. The Spaniard made his emergence in 2022/23 under Jurgen Klopp, featuring 19 times across all competitions, stamping his mark as one of several academy stars to be excited by in the Reds' setup.

There were challenges in the following campaign, with only four appearances made during a year where injuries started to clamp down hard. A calf problem saw Bajcetic out of action for much of the campaign, missing nearly 200 days for the club.

The 2024/25 campaign offered some hope of a return to action, starting off with RB Salzburg before joining Las Palmas for the second half of the season.

In that time, the youngster picked up 33 appearances for the two clubs, but disaster struck again as he suffered from a hamstring issue that required surgery, and would keep him out for over a year.

After such a long layoff, Bajcetic is only now getting back up to full speed, taking part in training during Liverpool's preseason but without any minutes on the pitch yet.

Those first minutes could end up with another club, as Fabrizio Romano reports that La Liga club Getafe has opened talks to sign the 21-year-old this summer.

It's claimed that a "formula" is being worked out between the two clubs, with it being unclear whether that could be a permanent exit or a loan switch.

As it stands, Bajcetic has just one year remaining on his contract at Anfield, meaning any loan exit comes with the risk of the star leaving as a free agent next summer.

Meanwhile, a permanent move could secure some much-needed funds to bolster the transfer spending pot available to Andoni Iraola before the window closes.

It would mark a somber end to Bajcetic's time on Merseyside, after emerging as an impressive talent who could have become a staple of the central midfield ranks for years to come.

Instead, injury has hampered him, and he has become something of a forgotten star for the Reds.

A move elsewhere with a clean bill of health may finally let the Spaniard become the player he always had the potential to be.
