Liverpool have “no intention” of using their matching rights option on Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah, according to reports.
The BBC claim that Arsenal have “expressed an interest” in signing the England international, and they have confirmed that the Gunners won’t face any competition from Andoni Iraola’s team.
Quansah was sold to Leverkusen last July in a deal worth up to £35m. The agreement also included a buyback clause worth €80m (£68.3m), although that option reportedly expired at the end of May.
There were subsequent claims that the player had agreed a contract in principle with the Reds if and when he did return to England, but the BBC suggests that they will not be competing for the player
It means Arsenal could have a free run to snap up the 23-year-old, with Leverkusen said to be willing to part ways for a fee in the region of €50m (£43m).

Liverpool don’t need another centre-back
Having splashed out £60m on Jeremy Jacquet and recruited Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona, it is not a surprise that sporting director Richard Hughes has opted against getting involved.
If the Reds do go into the market for another defender before the transfer window closes, it will likely be for a right-back to provide cover for the injured Conor Bradley.
Some will suggest that Quansah could be that player, but he has only started 9 games as a fullback in his senior career.
If Quansah is not an option, who could be signed instead?
Barcelona’s Jules Kounde has been mentioned as a potential transfer target in the Catalan press over the past couple of days.
Tottenham’s Djed Spence was reported as another candidate before he agreed a move to Inter Milan, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has recently refuted those claims.
