Fabrizio Romano provides Ibrahim Mbaye to Liverpool update

Liverpool are very much interested in Ibrahim Mbaye and it has been one of the more persistent stories for the club in this transfer window.

The Senegal international has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield for several weeks, with reports suggesting he wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Mbaye has struggled for regular minutes behind PSG’s crowded attacking options, including Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola.

That competition has only grown, with PSG also bringing in Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts this summer.

The 18-year-old made 24 Ligue 1 appearances last season, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He also featured four times in the Champions League and impressed at the 2026 World Cup, where he scored against France.

Bayer Leverkusen had been working on a deal for the winger earlier in the window, but he is reported to have paused that move once Liverpool showed concrete interest.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, that interest has moved into a new phase. Romano says Mbaye can leave PSG soon, with talks taking place over his future.

The journalist reports that Liverpool have spoken directly with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, over several days. Mbaye is understood to like the project on offer at Anfield.

“Ibrahim Mbaye can also leave Paris Saint-Germain soon with talks taking place,” Romano said in his YouTube video.

“Liverpool spoke to his agent Mendes and Mbaye likes #LFC project but the valuation made by PSG currently deemed as too high.”

However, Romano’s update also carries a note of caution. PSG’s current valuation of the player is considered too high by Liverpool’s decision-makers.

That price has been reported at around €50m (£43m), though PSG’s exact figure has not been confirmed by Romano himself.

The situation adds another layer to Liverpool’s broader business with PSG this summer, given their parallel pursuit of Barcola.

Romano has previously stated that signing both wingers would represent a combined outlay of almost €200m, a package he described as difficult to justify.

Other reports have offered a slightly different picture.

L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi has claimed Liverpool are preparing to submit an opening bid for Mbaye in the coming days, suggesting the move is far from dead despite the valuation gap.

For now, the situation remains fluid. Mbaye’s preference for Liverpool is not in question, but whether the two clubs can bridge PSG’s asking price will decide if that preference translates into a transfer.
