Man United is set to face Chelsea for the transfer of JJ Gabriel. The Blues aim to sign a permanent deal with the young forward this summer.
The Blues make move for Gabriel for next season
Even though the Red Devils are making preparations for a long term deal with Gabriel, Chelsea are already aiming for a permanent contract with the forward. As reported by TEAMtalk, the West London club have expressed their interest in the 15-year-old forward. Since his youth contract will expire next year, **Chelsea**want to secure his transfer as soon as possible.
Even clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Arsenal have shown their interest in the teenage player. Gabriel has been part of Man United’s youth academy since 2022. In 2025, he made debut for England’s U15 as well as the U16 squads. Subsequently, he received a call for the U17 team in 2026.
Will Man United retain Gabriel?
Gabriel became the youngest player to represent Man United in a friendly match against Atletico Madrid on August 1. He also attended the pre-season camp in Norway, although he didn’t represent the team in any of the matches. As such, chances of the Red Devils letting him out for a transfer remain unlikely.
Gabriel will turn 16 by October 2026. He will be eligible for a scholarship contract by then. However, if United want him by their side for the next season [especially in the**Premier League**], they need to sign a permanent contract with him. Gabriel has already proved his mettle at the U18 stage. He was even named the U18 Premier League Player of the Season in May 2026.

What’s next for JJ Gabriel?
Right now JJ Gabriel is aiming to book his place permanently in the senior squad for the next season. He has a relatively clean record in terms of both discipline and fitness. Gabriel has already gained limelight for his **football**skills before he turned ten. In 2019, a viral YouTube video earned him the nickname ‘Kid Messi’.
Interestingly, he is a generational talent as well. His father Joe O’Cearuill was also a famous footballer, who went on to represent the Republic of Ireland. Thanks to his mixed heritage, Gabriel is not only eligible to play for England, but also countries like Ireland, Cyprus, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Meanwhile, Man United are undergoing significant transformation before the 2026-27 season. The team is working on strengthening its defense as well as the attacking lineup. The club has already signed players like Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow for the next season. Even Marcus Rashford is expected to return to the club this summer.
It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils manage to retain Gabriel this summer. If he somehow joins Chelsea, it will be a bonus for Gabriel. However, given how much he achieved in Old Trafford, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the teenager decides to hone his skills further at Manchester United.
The age factor is already in his favor, and if the Red Devils train him well, Gabriel could soon turn into one of the brightest players the English football have witnessed till date. The Three Lions are already enthusiastic after securing a podium finish at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, one of their best performances since the 1966 edition. Now with players like JJ Gabriel, they can only grow further.
