Tony Romo and CBS have parted ways ever since Romo was arrested for his DUI in Milwaukee, WI in July. The long time Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback was one of the main voices of football on Sunday, and now has seemingly been left in the dust. To add insult to injury, CBS and Jim Nantz released a promo for the upcoming season.

CBS’ New Promo For 2026 NFL Season Has Fans Saying They’ve “Thrown Tony Romo Under the Bus”
There are only a few weeks left until the NFL regular season begins. In anticipation of all the fun, the top channels are releasing promos for the upcoming year.
There is no doubt that the NFL is America’s most-watched sport, and CBS has become one of the main broadcast stations over the years. With Jim Nantz and Tony Romo at the helm, CBS has had one of the best broadcasting crews in the business.
Romo, however, was not featured in CBS’ promotion video, likely because of his recent legal troubles. Romo’s absence was quickly noticed by NFL fans, and some say Nantz put his partner on the spot.

Romo, in case you were unaware, was arrested on July 23 for operating while intoxicated (OWI). Bodycam footage of Romo’s arrest has been released, and it appears he failed at least one of the field sobriety tests.
There will be a court appearance scheduled for September 21, right in the middle of the NFL season. No announcement from CBS has been made regarding Romo’s availability for Week 1. Nevertheless, JJ Watt has been announced as his replacement during his indefinite leave of absence.

Here is the promo CBS released on which John Ziegler commented, “It sure looks like Jim Nantz has fully thrown his good buddy Tony Romo under the bus!”
A user on X named Tim Snooksaid, “I bet they filmed this pre-Romo DUI and just cropped him out in the post.”
One user on X took issue with Nantz’s presence in the video and wrote, “I have never seen a network sports announcer who loves making himself the story as much as Nantz. What a clown!”

However, not everyone thinks Nantz should be blamed for this promo, since he has to keep doing his job no matter what happens to his partner. Jeff on X said, “What do you want him to do? Quit because Romo is suspended?”
Another person added, “Tony Romo threw himself under the bus. The only person personally responsible for Tony’s decisions and behaviors is Tony. Jim needs to keep living.”
