A new era gets underway at Anfield as head coach Andoni Iraola takes charge of a Liverpool side in transition following a listless campaign. With a tactical reset needed to restore belief on Merseyside, the Reds enter the new season aiming to secure a swift return to Champions League football.

Bookmakers place Liverpool at 5/1 to mount a title challenge and win the Premier League outright, while offering odds of 2/1 to finish in the top 2. For those looking at European qualification markets, Liverpool are priced at 3/10 to finish in the top 5.

In the market for Liverpool's top team goalscorer, Alexander Isak leads the betting at 2/5, followed by Cody Gakpo 6/1 and Florian Wirtz at 9/1.

The view from our Liverpool reporter, Paul Gorst

Anything that is an improvement on last season's dour, listless brand of football from a confidence-shot squad will be seen as something as a success but it feels like Liverpool have accepted they need to take a step back to take two forward in the long term under Andoni Iraola.

The goal has to be Champions League qualification but that won't be something that will have supporters jumping for joy given how many title challenges they have been involved in this past decade.

It's a new era at Anfield this season and that means 'transition'. Work is needed to give Iraola the squad he needs but at the time of writing the transfers have been steady if a little underwhelming.

They can't afford to allow one tough season to set them back too far though. If Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz click as a pair, however, Liverpool will have every chance to progressing but few are expecting a genuine title challenge, as much as that will be difficult to admit for many fans.
