Enzo Maresca is keen on Chelsea‘s Enzo Fernández and Manchester City are working on completing this operation.
The Italian has managed the midfielder at Stamford Bridge and wants to reunite with him at the Etihad.
Last week, Sport Witness relayed news the Chelsea star has reached an agreement with Manchester City for personal terms.
Manchester City preparing attack for Chelsea star
The Blues reportedly gave a deadline of last Friday but are open to doing business with their Premier League rivals.
That’s according to AS, who cover the action taken by Xabi Alonso’s side to sell the 25-year-old.
Last month, Enzo Fernández’s agent Javier Pastore confirmed he wants to leave Chelsea this summer.
Manchester City, in order to please their manager, are ready ‘to do anything’ to secure his services.
They are at an advanced stage to sell Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders to Barcelona and Al-Qadsiah respectively. Their exits will allow Manchester City to raise funds and make room for the Argentine international.
Mendes involved in big Chelsea sale
Manchester City haven’t finalised these operations but did send a verbal, unofficial bid of €120m last week. The London club didn’t consider it.
Chelsea, who publicly maintain the player isn’t for sale, have been working on getting rid of since the end of last season.
The west London club have tasked Jorge Mendes to expedite his sale. The super-agent played a role in his arrival in January 2023, and Blues co-owner Behdad Eghbali wants him involved this summer.
Enzo Maresca has been in regular contact with his former player so that they can reunite at the Etihad.
AS says: ‘Enzo wants to reunite with Enzo. All that’s left is to agree on a price.’ In other words, Manchester City only have to find an agreement with the Blues for the price.
This, as per the newspaper, is the ‘biggest problem’. Chelsea want to cash in big, more so after his impressive run at the World Cup.
AS states: ‘It’s no wonder his buyout clause was estimated at €140m [£120m], a sum that City isn’t willing to pay, at least not if it can help it. City has enough cash flow to make the move, especially if the Savinho transfer also goes through. Chelsea don’t want to lose out on the deal.’
This week would be key for the operation. With all parties in favour of his transfer, Enzo Fernández could eventually end up at Manchester City.
