The Falcoholic Reacts: The next hopeful pass rushing threat

The Falcons face a major defensive obstacle going into the season without two of their top edge rushers. After Jalon Walker tore his ACL nearly two weeks ago, James Pearce was recently suspended for eight games after his deplorable actions off the field in January. That leaves Jeff Ulbrich searching for answers among what is a severely undermanned group. While a veteran edge rusher could be signed before the season begins, someone on the roster must emerge as someone who can cause some havoc.

Bralen Trice and Zach Harrison appear to be the best options based on their upside. While Samson Ebukam and Azeez Ojulari are veterans who have each produced one double-digit sack season, they are more likely contributors than starters, who will be on the field for 40-45 snaps per game. Despite Harrison showing impressive flashes since entering the league in 2023, he rotates between lining up off the edge and on the interior. That helped give Trice the edge over Harrison in the survey.

It would be massive for the Falcons if Trice emerged as a starter who can bring some explosiveness as a pass rusher while setting the edge against the run. His performance would provide a much-needed lift for a 2024 draft class that looks to be a regrettable one with Michael Penix Jr., Ruke Orhorhoro, and JD Bertrand.

Only Brandon Dorlus has developed into a credible starter who looks destined to be one of the key pieces on the Falcons’ defense for years to come. Trice joining him would be hugely uplifting for a defensive line in search of difference-makers.
