Supporters are always arguing about which club is the “best in the world”, but Opta actually believe they can quantify it using stats.
Their “Power Rankings” use a “hierarchical Elo-based rating system” which takes into account 3.3m results from 1990.
It takes into account both the final score and xG, weighted 80/20 in favour of the former, to rank each club.
