Sheffield Wednesday Target Fresh Liverpool Loan Move Following Scanlon Blow

Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing a move to sign Liverpool‘s Kieran Morrison in their latest attempt to loan in one of the Premier League side’s youngsters.
The Owls were in a two-way battle with Cardiff City to recruit left-back Calum Scanlon, but learnt that they had been beaten by the Championship newcomers to the 21-year-old’s signature.
Morrison Enters Frame
A new attacking midfielder has emerged as a new focus in Wednesday’s transfer business during the final weeks of the window, having also been reported to be admirers of Bolton Wanderers’ John McAtee in a multi-club battle.
Now, according to Alan Nixon through his Patreon page, their attention has turned to Kieran Morrison, who has impressed during Liverpool’s pre-season preparations.
The Reds have depended on the 19-year-old to play at right wing amid their struggles to sign a replacement for Mo Salah on that flank, with the Northern Irishman playing in four of their six outings ahead of their season opener against Newcastle United.
However, Andoni Iraola’s side are hopeful of finding new alternatives in the market, having been linked with PSG’s Ibrahim Mbaye on top of a potential position change for the talented Rio Ngumoha.
It is believed that other, as-yet unnamed clubs are also keen on a move for Morrison, which would mark his first senior loan move away from Anfield, where he has made just two senior appearances.
Wednesday have heavily recruited in their wide areas this summer, having signed Harry Gray and Louie Barry, as well as Callum Slattery to play in a central attacking midfield role.

Loan Rules Lurk
Given Sheffield Wednesday’s restriction on paid transfers for the remainder of this window, Henrik Pedersen and his recruitment team have had to browse the loan market in order to round out their squad ahead of the deadline.
Kieran Morrison could be the latest loanee to arrive at Hillsborough this summer, and with EFL restrictions only allowing five loan players in any matchday squad, it means that the Owls are slowly closing in on that threshold.
Considering the other business the club need to complete, especially at left-back, there could be a remote but realistic chance that the Owls will have to rotate their loan options carefully if other additions are made.
Is Morrison The Correct Signing?
Despite some strong options being recruited this summer, it seems that Sheffield Wednesday are still keen to add further options to their ranks before it is too late.
While John McAtee may be out of reach for the Owls considering the strength of competition in that race, it seems that Kieran Morrison could be the ideal alternative to the 27-year-old.

An untested prospect in senior football, the 19-year-old has certainly impressed in Liverpool’s pre-season outings, and with moves for two more wingers in Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye likely, chances for both him and Lewis Koumas may be hard to come by this season.
Hillsborough could be an ideal location for him, and even if he does struggle for regular minutes with Louie Barry, Harry Gray and Callum Slattery also in the squad, the experience he will gain will be more than adequate.

Crucially though, Morrison offers the perfect choice for Pedersen to tinker with formations this season, with none of the three being natural right-wing options like the Northern Irish international.
