The public-viewing portion of Pittsburgh Steelers training camp is officially over.
While Monday was scheduled to serve as the final open practice of camp at Saint Vincent College, weather conditions compelled the Steelers to close campus.
A post to the Steelers’ official X account at 9:22 a.m. read “Due to projected inclement weather in the surrounding area, which includes the threat of lightning, (Saint Vincent’s) campus is closed today to fans.”
Practice was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Monday and was to be the 14th and final originally-scheduled practice open to fan viewing at Chuck Noll Field. Two prior workouts, though, were also closed because of weather.
According to the online AccuWeather forecast for Latrobe, rain was to begin shortly after 10 a.m.
For the first time of their 60-year tenure of conducting camp at Saint Vincent, the Steelers this summer have the indoor Dunlap Center available to them for practices. New coach Mike McCarthy, though, prefers to have multiple fields available to him for practices.
The Steelers are scheduled to hold a walkthrough Tuesday morning at Saint Vincent before heading back to their UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Pittsburgh’s South Side. The Steelers play their second of three preseason games Friday night at Acrisure Stadium against the New York Jets.
