Details have emerged of Juventus’ attempt to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker this summer
Juventus made a serious attempt to sign Alisson from Liverpool this summer, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Reports emerged in May that the Brazilian goalkeeper was a top target for the Serie A club. Juventus were prepared to commit significant resources to bringing the 33-year-old to Turin.

Alisson’s contract situation made the move attractive. Liverpool triggered an option in March to extend his deal to 2027, meaning he entered the summer with one year left rather than facing a free transfer.
Liverpool, though, made their position clear. Sky Sports reported that Alisson was expected to stay at Anfield, and further reports in May confirmed the club had decided against selling him.
Di Marzio has now filled in the details behind that decision. Speaking on his podcast, “Caffè Di Marzio,” he explained the wider goalkeeper search that eventually led Juventus to Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario.
He described a hunt that began around the end of last season, in April, when head coach Luciano Spalletti pushed the club to find a goalkeeper with more personality.
Di Marzio said: “Juventus’ first target was Alison, who had already reached an agreement with the player: the Brazilian had already chosen his shirt number, but Liverpool decided to keep him. The Bianconeri insisted, but over time their attention shifted to Dibu Martinez.”
Alisson was the first name Juventus pursued, sending club officials to Liverpool to explore a deal. Chief executive Damien Comolli and sporting director Marco Ottolini were the figures reported to be leading that effort.
Di Marzio said Juventus had reached an understanding with the player himself. Fabrizio Romano offered a related account, reporting that Juventus proposed a longer contract and that Alisson was tempted, but left the final decision to Liverpool.
Liverpool blocked the move. The club chose to keep their first-choice goalkeeper, and the deal never advanced further.
Alisson has been Liverpool’s undisputed number one since arriving from Roma in 2018. Di Marzio had earlier named him one of Juventus’ top priorities for the summer.
With Alisson unattainable, Juventus turned elsewhere. A move for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez stalled over Villa’s valuation and the goalkeeper’s recovery from a finger injury. Talks also touched on Parma’s Zion Suzuki, who instead joined Villa.
Vicario became the eventual solution. Tottenham accepted a loan proposal from Juventus including a non-mandatory option to buy worth around £8.6 million, with David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano both confirming the agreement on Monday.
The Italy international had fallen behind Antonin Kinsky in Tottenham’s pecking order under new manager Roberto De Zerbi and did not feature in pre-season.
