Arsenal have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Jarrell Quansah after Bayer Leverkusen reportedly made their position on the defender crystal clear.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the former Liverpool academy player this summer as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the new season.

However, the latest update suggests Arsenal could struggle to prise Quansah away from Leverkusen.
Liverpool academy reporter Lewis Bower has revealed that he received an update on the defender’s situation on Monday, with Leverkusen currently considering Quansah to be unavailable for transfer.
“As things stand Bayer Leverkusen consider him not for sale at any price and have informed Arsenal this,” Bower reported.

The update represents a significant change in the situation for Arsenal, who have been exploring a number of options to reinforce their centre-back department.
Quansah completed a move away from Liverpool this summer, joining Leverkusen after making 58 appearances for the Reds’ senior side.
The 23-year-old came through Liverpool’s academy and established himself as a first-team option under Jurgen Klopp before continuing his development under Arne Slot.
His performances have attracted interest from elsewhere, with Arsenal among the clubs monitoring his situation.
However, Leverkusen’s latest stance means Arsenal may now have to look elsewhere if they are unable to convince the German club to reconsider.

The Gunners have already been linked with several defenders this summer, including Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa and Barcelona’s Jules Kounde, as Arteta looks to add further depth to his defensive options.
Arsenal’s need for another centre-back has been heightened by concerns surrounding William Saliba’s fitness, while Jurrien Timber has also been managing his return to full fitness.
For now, though, Quansah appears to be firmly off the market.
Leverkusen’s message to Arsenal is clear: they do not currently want to sell the defender, regardless of the offer that could arrive.
With the transfer window approaching its final weeks, Arsenal will have to decide whether to continue trying to change Leverkusen’s stance or move on to one of their alternative defensive targets.
