Liverpool’s 2026/27 Premier League Cup opponents revealed

Liverpool ended their 2026-27 pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory over Como 1907 at Anfield. The Reds had drawn 0-0 with Como in their first meeting on Sunday, but goals from Cody Gakpo and debutant Jeremy Jacquet gave Andoni Iraola’s side a half-time lead they held on to.

After six matches across two continents, Iraola’s first pre-season in charge has come to an end. Liverpool recorded three wins, two defeats and one draw, with Sunderland, Wrexham and Como beaten, while Leeds and Monaco secured victories and the first meeting with Como ended level.

The Reds now turn their attention to their Premier League opener away to Newcastle United on Sunday. Elsewhere, Liverpool U18s suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Manchester City in their opening Premier League North fixture.

Teddie Lamb and Archie Thornton put City 2-0 ahead before Liverpool captain Finn Inglethorpe pulled one back from the penalty spot late on. Despite further chances, the Reds could not find an equaliser.

Manchester City took the lead in the 18th minute after Liverpool failed to clear a corner, allowing Teddie Lamb to score from close range.

Liverpool created chances to equalise, with Finn Inglethorpe denied by City goalkeeper Ben Vickery after being played through by Williams. Matty Wright also made a smart save to deny Archie Thornton before half-time.

City doubled their lead just two minutes after the restart when Thornton headed in from a corner. Liverpool almost responded immediately, but Inglethorpe’s effort from another corner struck the underside of the crossbar.

Wright made several impressive saves to keep the deficit down before Liverpool pulled one back late on. Substitute Luca Eden was brought down inside the box, allowing Inglethorpe to convert from the penalty spot.

The Reds pushed for an equaliser and appealed for another penalty in stoppage time after Harvey Owen went down inside the area, but the referee waved play on as City held on for all three points.

Liverpool U18s’ Premier League Cup group-stage fixtures have also been confirmed. Simon Wiles’ side will face Brighton & Hove Albion, Stoke City and Ipswich Town in the opening phase.

Below are the fixtures:
