Sheffield Wednesday close in on Liverpool midfielder

Sheffield Wednesday have become an attractive destination for young players, with several exciting prospects developing at the club over the past year.

Henrik Pedersen has worked with the likes of Manchester United’s Harry Amass, Manchester City’s Jaden Heskey and Crystal Palace’s Tayo Adaramola. More recently, he has been handed Leeds United youngster Harry Gray.

Wednesday’s League One campaign got off to a winning start at the weekend, with Pedersen’s side beating Leyton Orient 2-1. However, the manager was still left wanting more.

Pedersen said: “To learn to win after last season, it’s a job in itself and to find a way in different games is a big strength. We need to have more identity, but the boys will grow with the identity.

“We are all sitting with a very big hunger that we want to show more. The boys will grow, and they will grow a lot through the season.

“It’s important to build up the confidence to win, but as I told the boys – we have to deserve to win games. We weren’t good enough in the first half but we were in the second, and this is what we want to have much more of.”

Liverpool youngster Kieran Morrison has been linked with several Championship clubs this summer, including Wolves and Middlesbrough.

However, according to the Liverpool Echo, Sheffield Wednesday are set to win the race to sign the 19-year-old after renewing their interest.

Morrison, who can play out wide or in central midfield, was part of Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the USA, where he scored for the Reds. He is expected to leave Anfield this summer to gain valuable first-team experience.

Morrison joined Liverpool’s Academy as an Under-14 after previously spending time at Manchester United. He signed his first professional contract with the Reds in April 2024 before progressing to the U21s the following season.

He enjoyed a strong 2024/25 campaign, scoring seven goals in Premier League 2 and the UEFA Youth League, before making his senior debut against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in October 2025.

His progress continued in January 2026 when he was named PL2 Player of the Month after scoring five goals in four appearances, including a hat-trick against Arsenal.

Morrison finished the season with 14 goals and four assists, earning a Player of the Season nomination and a new Liverpool contract. He made his Northern Ireland debut in June 2026, starting a friendly against Guinea.
