Preston’s Chase For Liverpool Youngster Called Off

Preston North End have suffered a blow in their pursuit for a talented midfielder.

James McConnell is set to remain at Liverpool for the season, with new manager Andoni Iraola rating the youngster highly.

Last Friday, reports emerged that a deal for the English midfielder to spend the season on loan at Deepdale was set to happen.

The Lilywhites were set to beat Swansea to the 21-year old’s signature, who spent last season on loan at Ajax making four league appearances for the Dutch giants.

However, after impressing in pre-season, he will now be staying put and providing depth for Liverpool this season.

Whilst it’s bad for Preston that they don’t have a young talent on their books, it seems they’re turning their attention to another target.

Tom Davies has found himself linked with a move to Deepdale, with the former Everton man finding himself without a club after being released from his contract at Sheffield United in the summer.

Injury problems have hampered his career and derailed what was once a promising one at that.

Making only 10 league appearances last season, The Blades cut their losses with the midfielder to make room for more available options, leaving him in career limbo.

You can’t say they haven’t been patient neither, after signing in 2023, he was given three years to find fitness and form, but could only conjure up 32 league appearances over three years in Yorkshire.

After bursting onto the scene with a goal against Manchester City in 2017, the same one where Ademola Lookman scored his infamous debut goal, a lot was expected from the Liverpool-born midfielder.

A chipped effort over Claudio Bravo was met with a rocking Goodison Park, seeing one of their own hand it to Pep Guardiola’s prototype City team.

Football is a short career and can take the smallest things to alter the course of it, now the 28-year old finds himself potentially heading to Lancashire to try and find himself once again.
