Newcastle United continued its preseason against Everton at Murrayfield on Wednesday, giving Matthias Jaissle another opportunity to implement his ideas after opening his tenure with a 2-1 comeback victory over Valencia.

Speaking on Tuesday, hours before facing the Toffees in his first official press conference at St. James’ Park as Newcastle head coach, Jaissle outlined the identity he wants his team to develop while acknowledging that significant adjustments remain ahead during the club’s transitional summer.

“Front-footed, intense, aggressive and, of course, successful,” Jaissle said when asked about his aims for the Magpies. “The approach we have as a coaching team, and the identity of Newcastle is famed for, it’s so linked so close together, which is a perfect fit in my eyes. And that’s going to be exciting.”

Jaissle spent his opening week with Newcastle at the club’s training camp in La Manga before finally getting an opportunity to settle into his new surroundings on Tyneside. After the new boss conducted his first Newcastle-based training session, he emphasized maximizing the limited preparation time he’ll have with the team before the Premier League campaign begins on Aug. 23.

“We want to develop and improve with a short amount of time. We want use every minute of every day,” Jaissle said. “It’s a big challenge when there’s a transitional period but it’s not time to complain. It doesn’t makes sense to see the negative things.”

The Magpies will open the Premier League season against Liverpool at St. James’ Park, face West Brom two or three days later for the second round of the Carabao Cup, and then make a trip to London to face Tottenham on MD3 of the EPL.
