ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs are in the last week of training camp, four weeks out from their first regular-season game. With one preseason game completed, the Chiefs are back in St. Joseph, where head coach Andy Reid said the days are starting to blend together.
“All the days are running together,” Reid said.
Sixth overall pick Mansoor Delane was out of his yellow non-contact jersey on Monday. Delane, the Chiefs’ highest draft pick since 2013, was a full participant at practice.
“Looks like he’s healing up pretty good, enough to where he can get out here and do some things,” Reid said. “And then we’ll just monitor and see how he does.”
Patrick Mahomes continued to take every rep with the first team. The Chiefs haven’t committed to starting him in Week 1, but he remains the only quarterback to work with the first team.
Tight end Jared Wiley, who tore his ACL in 2024, is impressed with how Mahomes has comeback his ACL and LCL injury.
“That dude is a warrior,” Wiley said. “It kind of puts it into perspective, like with everybody else, like, what do we have to complain about? I mean, this guy’s out here working his tail off.”
Two-time Pro Bowl guard Trey Smith remained sidelined with a hip injury. He did not wear pads or participate in practice. The Chiefs said he is progressing toward a return.
“Trey’s doing good, you know,” Reid said. “We’ll see. I mean, he’s getting close.”
Travis Kelce, in his 14th season, showed he can still get separation in the NFL. He blew past six-year veteran Alohi Gilman in the 1-on-1 portion of practice.
“I still study how he runs routes and how he approaches the game every day,” Wiley said. “You know, I’m always trying to pick his brain. I’m always trying to, you know, just find these little types of intricacies in my game that, you know, could make me better.”
The Chiefs play their only road game of the preseason Saturday at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kickoff in Tampa is set for 6:30 p.m.
