Fenerbahce have denied transfer interest in Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens, shutting down reports of a shock summer move. As per the latest transfer news, the Blues star Jamie Gittens found his name at the centre of the rumours. Not to forget Gittens only joined the west London side from Borussia Dortmund a year ago.
Fenerbahce shut down transfer talk
Gittens had a difficult first year in the Premier League, and talk of a move soon picked up online. Fenerbahce moved fast to stop the story before it spread further. They put out a firm statement on Saturday night. The club said the claims were false. They also blamed reports in the Turkish media for stirring up interest that was never really there.
As reported by talkSPORT, Fenerbahce said reports about their interest in Gittens were“completely unfounded and do not reflect the truth.” They also said any attempt to use “false transfer claims and artificially created agendas” would fail completely.
The club added that its full focus right now is on its season opener in the Trendyol Super League. It shows how seriously Fenerbahce guard their name as the new season nears. In the same statement, the club also asked its fans to ignore the rumours. They were told to follow news only through official channels.

Gittens’ difficult first season at Chelsea
Jamie Gittens joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £51.5 million last summer. His first season in English football brought little reward for that outlay. The young winger managed just one goal and five assists in 27 games in all competitions. Injury problems hurt his campaign further, as a hamstring issue kept him out for over 100 days.
He missed 22 matches in total for the Blues in the last term. Those numbers point to a player who found it hard to settle in, both in body and in form. His output dropped off badly during that stretch. That return falls well short of what such a fee should have produced in his debut season.

What comes next for Jamie Gittens
New Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has already given Gittens a fair shot this season. The young winger has played in five of Chelsea’s six pre-season games so far. He already has a goal and an assist under the new coach this summer. His pace and direct running suit Alonso’s plan to attack with width and fast transitions on the counter. Playing high and wide gives him room to run at tired defenders late on. That space could unlock more end product for him this term.
From a tactical perspective, giving up on Jamie Gittens after one hard season would be too soon. He is still only 22, and he showed real talent back at Dortmund before his move. Confidence and full fitness, not raw ability, look like his biggest hurdles right now at Stamford Bridge. A settled run of games could turn his form around before the end of the year.
Gittens could be part of the squad when Chelsea open their Premier League season against Fulham on August 24. With the Fenerbahce rumours out of the way, his focus can shift fully to Alonso’s plans on the pitch. His next few performances should show whether that spark from Dortmund is still there.
