Jordyn Tyson has been everything New Orleans Saints fans thought he would be when the team drafted him with the 8th overall pick. He's been dynamic, fluid and eye catching during practice, but they unfortunately are getting the full Tyson experience very early. Tyson will miss the beginning of the season due to a hamstring injury that could keep him out for roughly two months, per Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
The Saints have been very cautious with Tyson this whole offseason. He didn't take the field until training camp. When he did, Tyson didn't have any restrictions, so that would suggest the Saints were correct for how they approached his recovery.
Unfortunately, caution and Tyson's own preventative measures weren't enough to keep another injury from happening. The most recent injury happened during joint practices with the Jaguars, and despite not giving a concrete timeline at the moment, fans all knew this wasn't going to be quick.
Jordyn Tyson's hamstring injury isn't tied to his college injury and that makes it even scarier
This is not the same injury from college that's been re-aggravated. It's a different injury, and that's concerning. This can't be treated like anything other than a recurring issue that won't stop anytime soon.
It's similar to Chris Olave's concussions. He's had enough to where you'll constantly worry if another concussion, or hamstring injury in this case, is on the way. It doesn't mean Tyson will never play or won't put together long stretches of playing, but it does mean you'll always wait on the next one.
This is the fear everyone had going into the draft, but someone was going to take that chance. That someone was the Saints, and now they have to deal with it.
The Saints haven't decided whether or not to put Tyson on short-term injured reserve. If they do, that will open up a roster spot and keep Tyson on the shelf for at least the first four weeks. That's seven weeks from today, so it would line up pretty well with the "roughly two months" timeline.
That keeps Tyson out for games against the Lions, Ravens, Raiders and Falcons. It would be brutal to see the Saints without Tyson for that long, but it's likely what's best for him. The hamstring from college kept him out for the entire draft process and most of the offseason after a re-aggravation, so the Saints will do everything they can to avoid that long of a layoff again.
