Liverpool fans were given a taste of how their team will shape up under Andoni Iraola at the weekend. The Reds' 2-0 victory over Como on Sunday saw defenders Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo make their bow for the club in an experienced starting line-up.

Nevertheless, there will be optimism amongst the Anfield faithful that a place remains in Iraola's first XI to be occupied by PSG winger Bradley Barcola. The Reds have been pursuing the attacking talent for months, aiming to secure a deal before the transfer deadline closes on September 1.

Today's developments see one of this summer's most significant transfer sagas take an unexpected turn, with PSG reportedly reconsidering their position on the £145million valuation they are believed to be demanding for the 23-year-old French international. Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding a collapsed transfer involving a current Liverpool player have come to light.

Transfer moves step closer

PSG are said to be willing to entertain offers below their initial asking price for Barcola this summer. French publication Jeunes Footeux reports that the European champions are offering a "discount" on the figure, having originally insisted on around £145m for the winger.

The outlet suggests the Parisian heavyweights are now prepared to negotiate with the Reds for a sum between £110m and £120m. PSG reportedly regard the compromise as a "small gesture" that will prompt Liverpool to intensify their pursuit of Barcola.

However, the publication cautions that "PSG are under no obligation to sell" and will remain resolute in refusing to be more "generous" when it comes to their revised valuation.

Fabrizio Romano has also provided Reds fans with an update. He believes a deal to bring Barcola to Liverpool will now "accelerate" with Liverpool "pushing" to conclude the transfer.

Transfer U-turn explained

Additional details have emerged concerning Juventus' aborted attempt to sign Reds goalkeeper Alisson earlier this summer. The Serie A outfit made an early approach in a bid to secure the Liverpool No.1, but their initial proposal was not deemed anywhere near acceptable.

Alisson, 33, had reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms to join the Bianconeri, but Liverpool have opted to retain him for at least another season following the extension of his contract.

Reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has provided further insight. On his podcast, he revealed that Juve's primary target was Alisson and that the player and Italian side "had already reached an agreement."

He went on to say that the Brazilian had even chosen his shirt number. Nevertheless, with Liverpool determined to hold on to their No. 1, Juve turned their focus towards Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Martinez finds himself in an uncertain position as Villa close in on a deal for Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma, while Tottenham's Guglielmo Vicario is set to head to Turin on loan.

Alisson featured for the Reds on Sunday in their victory over Como and reaffirmed his dedication for the campaign ahead, insisting he is primed for the Iraola era to begin.

"All the boys did well, the back four did really well, the players in midfield run a lot and fight a lot to get the results and that's the spirit we have to keep on going for the next games," he said.

"I am really excited and looking forward, but [with] feet on the ground. We dream big but we work hard. That's the thing we have to do. We still have things to improve and don't have consistency for the full game, but we are going to get there."
