Biggest indication yet that £78m midfielder wants to join Liverpool this summer

**Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Adam Wharton for close to a year now, with the biggest indication that he would want to join the Reds arriving this week.**

The Reds have been linked with the Crystal Palace baller for ages, but a move has yet to materialise for the £78m-rated 22-year-old.

The most recent link came from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/crystal-palace-fc/crystal-palace-confident-over-adam-wharton-after-liverpool-twist)‘s Pete O’Rourke, who said:  _“Obviously Palace don’t want to lose one of their best players after losing the likes of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi in recent years. It’s gone quiet on him, to be honest. Obviously there were early links with Liverpool and everything else._

_“But with Andoni Iraola coming in I’m not sure that Adam Wharton would be a top target for the Spaniard because of the style of play he put in place at Bournemouth. We’ve seen other clubs be busy in the market with midfielders. Obviously Spurs were linked with Wharton but now it looks like they’re getting deals done from Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali._

_“Palace are in box seat here, he’s under contract and obviously if other midfield targets are being signed by other clubs then it might see Wharton stay at Selhurst Park.”_

Wharton would be a very special addition to the Liverpool team that Andoni Iraola is assembling, particularly given how the team lacks a deep-lying playmaker. The midfielder has now dropped the biggest indication that he would love a move to Anfield.

Wharton wins Gerrard shirt, sparking fresh transfer frenzy

----------------------------------------------------------

Wharton couldn’t hide how excited he was to win a signed Steven Gerrard shirt from the historic 2005 Champions League final. The Scouser was the hero in what is arguably the most famous final in the competition’s history, with Liverpool beating AC Milan on penalties thanks to a 3-3 comeback after the Reds went 3-0 down in the first half.

Wharton won the shirt in an eBay Live auction and received it on Monday, expressing his excitement afterwards, saying: “We got it.”

Sharing that the shirt had finally arrived, he said: “So the shirt from Icon Memorabilia’s live stream has just arrived – here it is. What a beauty that is.”
