This report essentially understands that Liverpool will not sign a midfielder, no matter who they end up selling in the midfield department.
The current state of Liverpool’s midfield
Liverpool’s midfield does currently seem to be on if the areas that the Reds have the best depth at the minute.
Dominik Szoboszlai was Liverpool’s best player last season and can play essentially anywhere on the pitch and particularly in midfield.
Florian Wirtz has spoken in recent weeks that he is hoping for consistency in the number 10 role under Andoni Iraola, as he looks to improve during his second year in the Premier League.
Ryan Gravenberch has been Liverpool’s deepest midfielder since Arne Slot took over and Alexis Mac Allister has been a crucial part of the midfield over the last few seasons, but was linked to a number of potential transfer destinations over the summer, including links to Real Madrid.
Lynch referenced the potential exit of midfielders, specifically naming Curtis Jones in this respect. Jones has been linked with a move to Inter, while other midfielders such as Stefan Bajcetic and Wataru Endo have been mentioned as potential players on their way out from the club.
Trey Nyoni was a player mentioned regularly by Andoni Iraola during preseason and his impressive performances show that he will be ready for more first team opportunities in the 2026/27 season.
