Julián Alvarez has been on Arsenal‘s agenda throughout this summer, and the Premier League winners can offer him a way out.
The striker wants to join Barcelona while Atlético Madrid have refused to let him leave. There has been a public fallout between the two La Liga sides, forcing Los Rojiblancos to take a firm stance.
Arsenal have been pursuing him even though he has given the preference to the La Liga winners.
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the Gunners can rescue him from his difficult situation.
Fresh attempt from Arsenal
According to El Desmarque, the Premier League winners are persistent in their efforts to sign the 26-year-old.
Mikel Arteta has called the Argentina international again to express his desire, and try to convince the Argentina international to move to the Emirates. This is Arsenal’s ‘last card’.
However, the former Manchester City man informed Arteta that if were to leave Atlético Madrid, he wants to join Barcelona.
Los Rojiblancos have no plans to let the frontman leave and have publicly made this clear.
Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín said there’s no plan to sell the South American even if there’s a €200m offer. They already turned down a €150m bid from Real Madrid earlier in the window.
Arsenal focusing on Plan B
Diego Simeone’s side refusing to sell and Julián Alvarez isn’t keen on returning to the Premier League.
This has seen the north London club shift their focus to another striker. Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen is an alternative.
Arsenal are negotiating with the Turkish champions to secure his services. At the weekend, the 27-year-old Nigeria international kept the door open for a move in this window.
He said: “There are always rumours during transfer seasons. I will focus on my job. I focus on my work. We’ll see and think about the future then.”
It remains to be seen whether Mikel Arteta will get Osimhen or another striker, before the window closes.
