The Athletic have claimed the Blues are ‘keen’ on the 22-year-old as John Mousinho looks to bolster his left-sided options.

The report states Championship rivals QPR also have the Anfield academy graduate on their radar in the final weeks of the window.

Pompey linked with Liverpool left-back

Left-back is an area in need of surgery ahead of the market’s climax on September 1, with Connor Ogilvie and Jacob Farrell both sidelined with injury.

This has forced versatile right-back Zak Swanson to once again answer Mousinho’s SOS, which has seen him start against West Ham and QPR.

A frontline left-back addition is a priority, though, with the Blues also looking to also offload Farrell before the summer’s closure, although his injury setback could hamper a potential exit.

Although QPR have been named in the report, a move for Chambers to Loftus Road doesn’t appear as likely after the Hoops signed former Sunderland left-back Dennis Cirkin last week.

Chambers spent the second half of last season on loan with Charlton Athletic, where he amassed 18 Championship appearances as the Addicks beat the drop to League One.

The England youth international has been an ever-present for Andoni Iraola’s side during Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the United States, which saw him feature five times in the Reds’ six fixtures.

Now, a move to Fratton Park could be a possibility for the left-back, who is expected to leave Anfield on loan in the final weeks of the window.
