Transfers from the Premier League to La Liga (and vice versa) are a staple of the summer. It always presents the same question – how will they perform in such a different environment?
This year, things are no different. Manchester United could soon dip into the Spanish market, as they have a Barcelona star in their sights.
United have been linked with Marc Casado for several weeks, but recently, a development has emerged surrounding this particular story.
According to a recent report from Spanish outlet Sport, the door may now be open for United to make a move after Barcelona have decided to sanction a move away from the Camp Nou for the 22-year-old.
Furthermore, The Times suggests that United head coach Michael Carrick is still keen on the idea of bringing Casado to Old Trafford.
As such, it’s easy to think that United should be leading the pack right now. However, the Red Devils are not the only club in the race.
Previously, according to a report from TEAMtalk, both Manchester City and Chelsea were interested in the player. If this interest persists, theyll both be firm contenders to bring him on board.
Furthermore, back in April, a report from TuttomercatoWeb claimed that both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United were in the mix. Following the Hammers’ relegation, they can be effectively ruled out, but Spurs could still be runners in the race.
As well as this, TransferFeed reports that other Premier League outfits, such as Aston Villa, Brighton, Everton and Newcastle United are amongst the interested parties, as well as a litany of teams from the Saudi Pro League.
United will undoubtedly face some firm competition from top teams if they want to secure Casado’s signature – can they land their man?

What would Marc Casado bring to Manchester United?
As you can see, goals and assists aren’t a big part of Casado’s game. Thankfully, he brings much more to the table than just goalmouth action.
A solid, multi-faceted defensive midfielder, Casado brings plenty to the table. His strongest asset is his passing, which gives him the ability to spray accurate balls around the pitch. He’s very intelligent on the ball, rarely conceding possession and having a knack for playing the correct pass every single time.
Additionally, he’s very effective when out of possession, too. His anticipatory skills are excellent, allowing him to read the game and win the ball back under pressure. Particularly, he excels in intercepting loose passes, though he isn’t the best tackler in the world.
He isn’t the perfect player, however. Particularly, standing at just 5ft 6, he is noticeably diminutive, even by La Liga standards. In the Premier League, where a lack of physicality can be a major issue, this could prove to be a highly exploitable weakness in his game. He’d likely need support from his centre-backs to cope with aeriel duels.
