Agent working to get player to Chelsea–Pedro Neto replacement presented

SportwitnessSport Witness

AC Milan’s Rafael Leao is yet to find a new club and Chelsea have a chance at signing him before the end of the window.

Throughout the summer, attempts have been ongoing to find a new club for the Portuguese. Sport Witness have covered how he was initially offered to Manchester United, who did make contact for his signing.

Soon, Tottenham were given the chance at a deal but they never made a formal move.

The situation is now growing desperate, with Milan in need of sales. This can hand Chelsea a transfer opportunity.

Agents constantly at work

Today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport explains Milan are done with incomings and they need sales if they to sign more players. Diego Moreira is arriving from Strasbourg and could essentially be a replacement for Leao.

The Portugal international’s exit is still a topic of concern for the Rossoneri. The situation is complicated because there are now several intermediaries involved.

This has led to AS Roma making initial contact. However, they aren’t proceeding.

An agent – whose name isn’t specified, is trying to build an ambitious move to Chelsea. This would be an all-Portuguese move, as Leao would come in as a replacement for Pedro Neto, who has attracted interest from Al-Hilal and Manchester City.

This agent (likely Jorge Mendes) is trying to find a new club for Neto, allowing the Blues a major shot at signing Leao.

Milan are now happy to execute a €40m sale, having failed to find suitors in Turkey.

Our take: Blues don’t need Leao

Earlier this summer, Chelsea signed Morgan Rogers and Mykhailo Mudryk is also back in the first-team fold. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is still at the club, which leaves the Blues quite full in the left-wing department.

As a result, they may not need Leao. He is best on the left and playing him in place of Neto on the right would be a waste of resources.

Besides, there are growing concerns about the 27-year-old’s fitness and off-the-ball work. Xabi Alonso wants pro-active players and this is a deal he may want to stay away from.
