Bruno Guimaraes has spoken about his decision to leave Newcastle United for Premier League champions Arsenal.
Following on from Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, Guimaraes became the latest star to quit the Magpies this summer after completing a £75million move to the Emirates earlier this month.
The 28-year-old joined United from Lyon for £40million in January 2022, first helping the club qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years and also reach the 2023 League Cup final, where they lost 2-0 to Manchester United.
Guimaraes was then appointed club captain in the summer of 2024 and in the following season became the first Newcastle skipper in 56 years to lift a trophy by going one better in the League Cup. The Magpies beat Liverpool 2-1 in the final at Wembley and capped off a historic campaign with another Champions League qualification.

Newcastle were unable to keep hold of top scorer Alexander Isak last summer as the Swede joined Liverpool and finished last season 12th in the Premier League table. Rather than stick around to help the club’s rebuild under new boss Matthias Jaissle, Guimaraes pursued a move to Arsenal.

The Brazilian lifted silverware last weekend after Mikel Arteta’s side beat Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield. In stating his intention to “fight for everything” with the Gunners, he further outlined his decision to leave St James’ Park.
He told ESPN Brazil: “I spent almost five years at Newcastle, I believe I helped rebuild the club. I arrived at a more difficult time in the club's history, from my point of view, and with my family I decided to try something new.

“I am very happy with my opportunity here at Arsenal, and now it's about continuing to work. Very happy to start on the right foot in my first official game, winning the title was very important.
"It's a very strong squad, great players, I think that's the intention, to fight for everything and we're going for it.”
